Field Trips are a 12-year tradition that successfully connect agriculture to suburban teachers. Every year the stops introduce a wide variety of agriculture topics to the trip attendees. This years trip will be held July 7-10, 2008. If you have attended the trip previously, we ask that you promote it to your fellow teachers and also attend the Alumni Trip!

Connecting the City...to the Farm for Lake County Teachers

General Information and Application

The Educator Field Trip is sponsored annually by the Lake County Farm Bureau, as well as many other agricultural organizations and businesses. The trip is designed to immerse teachers into agriculture and help them better understand its affects on everyone’s daily lives.

Agriculture is important to every one of us. Diminishing farmland in Lake County has taken away the visual part of production agriculture for today’s youth. It is essential for Lake County students to understand where their food and clothing comes from. By educating the teachers, we can also reach the students.

The trip involves tours of eleven agricultural stops in Lake, Cook, and McHenry counties.  Stops include the USDA @ O'Hare, Didiers Farm, Eli's Cheesecake Factory, Chicago board of Trade and Arlington Park just to mention a few! Teachers also have the opportunity to learn about resources and share ideas with other educators from the counties.

The trip offers CPDU’s, as well as the option for graduate credit. This unique opportunity is limited in numbers and fills up quickly. Please remember to register by May 2, 2007. If you have already attended the trip, we ask that you do not apply again.
